Guideline to Tipping Your Raft Guide
We often get asked if you should tip our guides. Though most rafting outfitters, Glacier Raft Company included, do not have a formal policy that says you must tip, your raft guides will appreciate it. Just like a restaurant server, hairdresser, hotel employee, or any other employee in the service industry, our guides depend on their tips to earn a living. They are highly trained professionals who are passionate about what they do. It is not just a job; It is a way of life. If you would like to tip our guides, the service industry standard is somewhere between 10-20% of the total trip cost.
Our guides do more than just guide you down the river; they are storytellers, history buffs, animal and plant identifiers, comedians, and some may even cook for you. If you feel like your guide did a great job, they are grateful for any signs of gratuity.
Guidelines to Tipping Your Raft Guide:
- You can hand cash to your guide, or we provide envelopes in our office for cash and a note. If you don’t have cash but still want to tip your guide, checks or credit card tips also work. Just talk to one of our friendly reservationists who will be glad to help you.
- For overnight trips, you can tip guides individually, or feel free to give the tip to the trip leader and they will divvy it up amongst the other guides on the trip.
However and whatever you decide is appropriate when it comes to tipping your raft guide, your guide(s) will truly appreciate your gesture!
