THINGS TO DO:

Get your snowshoes and cross country skis ready to explore the many different Winter Wonderland trails Glacier National Park has to offer! Check the park’s website for the most updated information on conditions and hours of operation.

Some of the best cross-country ski areas in Glacier National park are Apgar, St. Mary, North Fork, Lake McDonald-Avalanche, Two Medicine, and Marias Pass.

A popular winter hike is a 10.5-mile trek to Apgar Lookout. It is not easy, but the views at the top reward your efforts. There are also several other hiking trails around the Fish Creek campground that vary in difficulty.

Glacier National Park is also a great place for a winter weekend getaway if you enjoy ice fishing! Montana is open to fishing year-round. Try your hand on one of the many lakes in the park or the surrounding area! Ice conditions can change just as fast as the weather. Make sure you plan and prepare for wintery conditions.

Visit the Glacier Outdoor Center for souvenirs, gifts, fishing gear, and rentals. We rent snowshoes, trekking poles, crampons, and ice axes!

Airbnb and VRBO also offer convenient local accommodations in the area for your visit.  The nearby towns of Columbia Falls, Kalispell, and Whitefish also have great hotels with great restaurants and nightlife if you are willing to drive 25 – 45 minutes to the park.

PLACES TO EAT AND DRINK:

Most restaurants near Glacier National Park shut down winter. You can travel to Columbia Falls, Kalispell, and Whitefish for some great food!  If you are staying at the Glacier Outdoor Center, our cabins have a kitchen to prepare your own winter feasts.  

Visit the Glacier Distillery located in Coram, Montana.  Nestled in the foothills of Glacier National Park, sample their small-batch whiskey and fine spirits.  Enjoy their tasting room where you can purchase bottles, try tasting flights, and sip on cocktails.  Open Thursday-Sunday from 12 pm to 6 pm.  

Columbia Falls: Gunsight Saloon, Backslope Brewery, Three Forks Grille, Nite Owl & Backroom Restaurant, Vaqueros, North Fork Pizza, and Montana Coffee Traders.

Kalispell: The Montana Club, Sacred Waters Brewing, KOBE Steak & Sushi, Fatt Boys Bar & Grill, and various chain restaurants.

Brewed in the Mountains of Montana, Bridger Brewing is a favorite spot for families and Montana State University fans. Conveniently located across the street from Brick Breeden Field House, they have a beer on tap that will quench your thirst. If you want beers with a view, stop by the MAP Brewing Company. Try the local favorites and enjoy views of the Bridger Mountains across from Glen Lake. If you like to try different beers on another level, Mountains Walking Brewery is the perfect place to stop by. With a wide range of classic, experimental, and seasonal beers, you will enhance your beer pallet.

Piggyback BBQ is a meat-lovers paradise!  This pit BBQ restaurant will have your taste buds excited when your plate hits the table.  Enjoy one of their classic BBQ platters in a laid-back and friendly atmosphere.  In the summertime, you can sit outside with your pets! 

The Whitefish Lake Restaurant is an elegant traditional steakhouse perfect for special occasions, family dinners, and even dates.  The food is hardy and made simple with the finest quality products, and this restaurant is a favorite in the area.
