2 Day Middle Fork Rafting
If you only have a few days but still want to experience an extended whitewater adventure, we offer 2-day trips on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River.
The Middle Fork forms the southern border of spectacular Glacier National Park. In the spring and early summer, whitewater is at its peak on the Middle Fork with Class III rapids. By late July, the rapids have moderated to fun-filled Class II and III.
Without a doubt, there’s a special allure to the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. This is where Meryl Streep guided her family through rapids in the exciting feature film, “The River Wild.” The clear, cascading Middle Fork is part of the nation’s Wild and Scenic River System and one of the last great free-flowing rivers anywhere.
Photos you keep, fish you release
Although this is a whitewater adventure trip, there will be opportunity to fish. The Middle Fork has a bountiful supply of native Westslope cutthroat trout, along with rainbow trout, lake trout, and whitefish. All fishing is catch and release. Most of the fishing is done at camp in the evening or morning. However, if fishing is your primary interest, we suggest you book a Glacier Anglers fishing trip.
What to expect
We begin our trips at Glacier Outdoor Center. Here, we help you pack your gear into waterproof bags and prepare for the trip. We then travel up river for some thrilling river-running, fishing, camping and outdoor fun. At the end of the day, camp will be set up along the river’s edge. You’ll get to help with a little camp set-up, then try some fishing streamside if you wish. Or you can just change clothes and relax as your guides prepare dinner. If the fresh air and rippling water don’t cause you to drift off to sleep, you can join others around the campfire under a canopy of stars. The next day includes more fishing, rafting, rapids and riverside meals until late afternoon when we reach West Glacier.
We need a minimum of two people for these whitewater trips. Depending on group size, we’ll use either paddle rafts or oar boats.
Where to start
If it’s possible the day prior to your trip, we ask that you please stop by Glacier Outdoor Center to meet your guide and get dry bags for your personal belongings. We are located under the giant log arch on the south side of US Highway 2, 1/2 mile west of West Glacier.
Make plans to join us for an exhilarating whitewater journey down the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Rest assured, it will be one of the greatest times you and your family ever have!
